Hit The Beach

Cottesloe Beach, located about 15 minutes outside the city, is one of Western Australia’s most popular beaches for swimming and snorkeling with its crystal clear waters. Large waves also make it a popular destination for surfers and body boarders. Cottesloe Beach offers a relaxing atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxing in the sun or watching the sunset over the Indian Ocean.

Next to the beach, there’s a large, shaded grassy area, the Cottesloe Esplanade, that’s a great spot for a picnic lunch and a cold drink. Along the Marine Parade, you’ll find hip cafes and bars where you can get a beach side meal and a beer. If you want to explore another nearby beach, follow the Oceanway path by foot or bicycle. The Oceanway provides easy access between beaches.

You can checkout artwork and hand-made jewelry, have your fortune read with tarot cards or sit for a portrait. Along South Terrace, you’ll find cozy cafes for lunch and fish and chips at the wharf. At night, head to Fishing Boat Harbour where you’ll find some cool pubs with great ale and beer and a lively nightlife.

Take a Ferry Ride

Hope on a ferry and take a party cruise to Rottnest Island where you’ll find 63 different beaches and absolutely no cars. You can scuba dive in Fish Hook Bay with colorful coral reefs, or snorkel at Parker Point where you can explore underwater shipwrecks. If you’re a surfer, venture to Salmon Bay or Stark Bay where the waves are typically three to six feet high. For a history lesson, rent a bike and ride to Oliver Hill.
